MATR 2025 - Call for Submission
Application Deadline: January 5,2025
Welcome to MATR 2025!
Video Pool Media Arts Centre is pleased to announce our first Media Art + Technology Residency of 2025 (MATR25) in partnership with TakeHome BIPOC ArtHouse.
The Media Art and Technology Residency (MATR) is designed to be a site-specific exploration of VP’s Poolside Gallery and its environs, where artists will develop and install a new work that responds to and utilizes the gallery’s characteristics. MATR specifically supports experimental, independent technology-based works and we welcome submissions that respond to the annual theme.
Artists will have full access to VP’s available equipment and facilities during their residency and applicants are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the available equipment on VP’s website.
This edition of Media Art + Technology Residency (MATR25) is in partnership with TakeHome QTBIPOC ArtHouse.
MATR will be awarded to 2 BIPOC artists or artistic groups - VP & TakeHome will offer two awards of $2000 each for the residency and subsequent exhibition in Poolside Gallery.
Theme
This edition of MATR is dedicated to supporting BIPOC artists by providing mentorship for the creative development of new work. With a specific focus on projection mapping, artists are invited to explore the theme of “World Building as Radical Imagination”, and to envision and prototype alternate realities that challenge current and conventional boundaries, offering transformative perspectives on society, environment, and human connection.
Installation Options
Artists are not limited to the gallery proper and are encouraged to consider VP's hallways and projection wall as potential presentation areas as well as Poolside Gallery.
