Join the VP team!

Video Pool Media Arts Centre is seeking someone to fill the part-time role of Manager of Creative Programming. As this is an evolving position, the successful candidate will work with the team to define and develop the role of the programming department within the organizational mission.

The Manager of Creative Programming is primarily responsible for developing and delivering VP’s public programming, focusing on contemporary technology-based work (installations, interactive work, single or multi-channel audio, video, electronic art, web art, algorithmic art, kinetic sculpture etc). The Manger of Creative Programming develops community programs and promotes the organization and its mandate through residencies, exhibitions, screenings, artist talks, events, community collaborations, and research initiatives, and is responsible for maintaining the programming departmental budget.

VP is a small artist-run centre and as such, successful candidates will have a passion for the arts, be an independent worker who enjoys being part of a close-knit team, and will be prepared to wear multiple hats in order to support our collective pursuit of the organizational mission.

Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Working with the VP team to develop and deliver an annual schedule of events and exhibitions in media arts, including inter-departmental planning, scheduling and coordination. This may involve research, planning and coordination of screenings, exhibitions, installations, performances, lectures, artist talks, artist in residence opportunities and special events
  • In conjunction with the Executive Director, development and implementation of the Media Arts Residency (MAR) program, Scott Leroux Fund for Media Arts Exploration, and the Wendy Geller Fund.
  • Communicating with members and communities with regards to proposals for programming, artist in residencies, and programming partnerships, while maintaining clear lines of communication with the VP team
  • Development and distribution of promotional material, calendar of events, and press releases about VP’s events and exhibitions and other programs, including website, newsletters, flyers and other promotional materials.
  • Appropriate record keeping and reporting of resources, events, exhibitions and other projects.
  • Establish, implement, assess and maintain appropriate policies, goals, objectives and contracts, including long-term planning and policy formation.
  • The development and maintenance of appropriate and related partnerships with other artist communities, educational institutions and cultural community-based groups.
  • Active participation with the VP team in developing and maintaining VP’s anti-oppression and Safer Spaces policies.
  • Resource development, budget planning and maintenance, effective financial management, grant writing and reporting.
  • Event and human resources management as it relates to events and exhibitions.
  • Other duties as requested by the Executive Director

VP considers itself a training ground for both artists and cultural workers and as such, a successful applicant need not already have all the necessary skills and work experience associated with the position responsibilities, but should be prepared to gain these skills quickly, as they will rely on them in order to be successful in their role.

VP is committed to actively addressing the harms we have caused and are committed to the ongoing work of building anti-oppressive and inclusive practices and we highly encourage individuals from equity-seeking groups to apply.
