Erin Laye on Azimuth Nitehi
We are all just particles, drifting this way and that, with no clear place to go. In the installation “Azimuth Nitehi” you begin to embody the void and explore the outer reaches of a universe reminiscent of the milky way. The difference between our galaxy and this one is that the cold vacuum of space that we are familiar with, has become illuminated and brought to life by the particles within it. Enter this augmented reality where you are your heartbeat, and the average sum of all of the heartbeats around you. The inward force that connects you to the rest of humanity is brought outward.

Commissioned by VP during the pandemic, the dynamic duo of Dallas + Taylor developed Azimuth Nitehi, a combination of Nakota and Swampy Cree that roughly translates to “Moving Hearts.”
Azimuth Nitehi is an online experience being launched on November 5th and brought to life in exhibition form in Poolside Gallery.

Pieces of the Archive – Free Online Video Screening Program
Video Pool Media Arts Centre is excited to present the program Pieces of the Archive. Pieces of the Archive shows a small cross section of work from the Video Pool Media Arts Centre’s collection. Looking back at the collection that spans almost forty years of collecting it is hard to tell the story of the history of video art in Manitoba. The five works in this program do not even attempt to do that, however they explore ideas of, experimental practice, performance, social discourse, identity, culture, and gender. These are recurring themes in the majority of work in the collection. If you enjoy any of these five videos, you will find so much more in our collection that will interest you.
