Open House Dates: Every Friday in March, 1-5PM
Artist Talk: Thursday March 29, 7PM

Calgary multi-disciplinary artist Jackie Huskisson, recipient of the inaugural Scott Leroux Fund for Media Arts Exploration is the artist-in-residence for the month of March 2018. Jackie is occupying Poolside Gallery and developing sculptural forms which she is animating via projection-mapping. Her work delves into the psyche through the development of at-times surrealist characters isolated in space. As part of the Fund, we will be holding open houses each Friday throughout March, 1-5 pm in Poolside. Please drop by to get an in-process glimpse of Jackie’s work. We will also be holding an artist-presentation during the final week of March, date and time TBD. Examples of her work-in-progress will be posted on a continuous basis.

Notes on the project:

I am interested in creating a perception of infinite possibility with narration, by displaying the complexity of the universe that we are presented with, to illustrate the point of departure from the world while remaining in it. I want to challenge my drawing practice by bringing into the realm of the 3D and to create an immersive visual experience. I want to continue my investigation of infinite possibility by going beyond the blank white page. I want create an animated vignette where the viewer will be surrounded with drawings, patterns, and moving animated gifs that play alongside built sculpture and the architecture of the space. I will be creating an installation, video projected onto built shapes and around the space with accompanying drawings/paintings.

I work intuitively and I like my art to progress naturally, and I will be using the time at in Poolside to research and experiment. I want for this project to push what my drawing can do, and harness the power of human imagination, to engulf the senses and play on perceptions and see what I can add to the conversation of media art.
