Master Class with 2boys.tv & Alexis O’Hara
Presented by Video Pool Media Arts Centre & núna (now)
May 30 – June 03, 2016
Since 2002, as 2boys.tv, Stephen Lawson and Aaron Pollard have pursued a collaborative art practice that traverses disciplinary boundaries and political frontiers. They are active internationally and their beginnings as a duo emerged from Montreal’s wildly eclectic cabaret scene. Subsequently they have toured a wide repertoire of transdisciplinary art works and performances to museums, galleries, theatres, clubs, artist-run centres, universities, art biennials and festivals throughout the Americas, across Canada and to Europe. Well known for their integration and play with projection their enigmatic pieces often incorporate unique approaches to the art of collage, drag, indoor and outdoor spectacle as well as engaging in collective participatory art practices.
The interdisciplinary art practice of Alexis O’Hara exploits allegories of the human voice via vocal & electronic improvisation, sound installation and performance. She has released two solo albums, created several installation art works, performed internationally, held research and production residencies in Canada, Mexico, Cuba and Austria and offered numerous workshops including Noise School for Feminists. Alexis and her drag king alter-ego, Guizo LaNuit, are mainstays of the Montreal cabaret scene and she has two musical projects with the interdisciplinary artist Stephen Lawson, GuiGi, the world’s only drag-queen/drag-king party medley band and 10,000 Horses, purveyors of epic electronic torch songs who have just released their debut EP Le Grand Silence.
