Merging Mindsets – Principles and Tools of Interactivity
Margaret Noble – A Shit Pile Of Lights and Sounds for Your Pleasure – 2016

Event: Principles and Tools of Interactivity

Date & Time:  February 12, 2020, 7-9pm

Location: The Output, Video Pool Media Arts Centre

As part of our Merging Mindsets panel series, Video Pool Media Arts Centre, Creative Manitoba and New Media Manitoba will be hosting this dynamic discussion on Principles and Tools of Interactivity.

For artwork or installations to be interactive, artists and designers need to consider a multitude of factors, including what technology is needed and human behaviour. A willingness to engage can be different for everyone and usability can be a challenge. Technology can expand new avenues to bring your concept to life but it can also be temperamental. Join us to learn about sensors, software and considerations for incorporating interactivity into your artwork. This panel is designed to inspire and inform but will not be a hands-on workshop.

This event will be recorded. Walk-ups are welcome!

Margaret Noble was born in Texas and raised in California, her experimental artworks have been exhibited nationally and internationally. Her interdisciplinary work resides at the intersection of sound, sculpture, and performance. She holds a BA in Philosophy from the University of California, San Diego and an MFA in Sound Art from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Noble’s work is influenced by the beat-driven dance culture of southern California which flourished during the 1980’s and later led her to perform as an electronic music DJ in the underground club community of Chicago. In 2004, she branched out from the dance floor into experimental sound art for new audiences which intersected the electronic sound scene and the visual arts community. During this transition, Margaret created sound works for collaborative projects in video, dance and object theatre. Her artistic works have now evolved into sculpture and installation influenced by interests in memory, history, narrative, and identity. Her artistic residencies include the MAK Museum in Vienna and the Salzburg Academy of Fine Art. She has had several solo exhibitions including the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, Ohrenhoch der Geräuschladen Sound Gallery in Berlin, and Mute Gallery in Portugal. About Merging Mindsets

In cities around the world, the creative arts and interactive digital media sectors are bringing their respective skills together to imagine and create exciting new events, art and products – merging digital technologies with artistic practice.
