Video Pool Media Arts Centre invites you to attend an Artist Talk by Regina based artist Risa Horowitz. She has spent the month of May working in our studio as an artist in residence.

Horowitz will present her work in progress, Imaging Saturn. The project visualizes the planet’s motion during the course of its 29 year-long orbit around the sun. She will share her processes and experiences in developing a series of micro-controlled kinetic sculptures of the planet that, with image recording devices, will depict its appearance throughout its orbit.

Through this project Horowitz explores the sublime and incomprehensible scale of the universe, and our ability to make sense of that scale both logically and intuitively. While working across visual and media arts and science, Horowitz will discuss the ways that the project aggravates boundaries between the expert and amateur.

Imaging Saturn will be exhibited in a partnership between Video Pool and Platform Centre for Photographic + Digital Arts in early 2016, and is supported by a Media Arts grant from the Canada Council for the Arts.
Check out her blog about the residency here.
