Projection Mapping with MadMapper – Second Edition

Step once again into the transformative world of projection mapping with artist jaymez, where light, space, and creativity converge to redefine perception.

Due to popular demand, this workshop series is back for its second offering, expanding your ability to bring digital visuals to life in dynamic, immersive ways.

This course introduces projection mapping as a versatile art form, guiding participants from foundational setup to advanced techniques suitable for large-scale exhibitions. Whether you are a beginner eager to explore new dimensions of light or a creator seeking to refine your projection mapping skills, this series offers hands-on experience and practical applications for both gallery and experimental settings.

In addition to technical training, the class will engage in a discussion on the ethics behind projection mapping, considering the impact of digital art on public spaces, cultural contexts, and shared environments.

  • Hands-on practice with MadMapper, mapping simple shapes, automating cues, and layering multiple projections.
  • Guidance on selecting and evaluating projectors for different spaces.
  • Exploration of advanced projection design, including architectural mapping and large-scale installations.

Course Details:

Participants will work directly in MadMapper and experiment with complex visuals and spatial projections. Practical demonstrations on video playback, spatial awareness, and cue automation will enhance creative workflows.

Course Requirements:

Participants will need a computer with at least 300 MB of disk space and at least 2 GB of RAM and any GPU compatible with Open GL 3.3.

* Thanks to MadMapper, for the duration of the course, MapMapper Licenses will be provided for all students.

* It is highly recommended for those online to find a projector in their respective community to complete the hands on application of MadMapper. VP has consolidated information across Canada to help you find one. Click here for information.

* Although not required, participants might find having an extra monitor plugged into their laptop organizationally beneficial while working.

With a diverse background in visual art, dance, theatre, opera, and music, jaymez brings a unique and multifaceted approach to design, refined over nearly two decades of professional practice. He has worked as a production designer, crafting dozens of lighting, video, and sound designs for a wide array of directors, choreographers, artists, and musicians. His artwork and designs have garnered international recognition across multiple continents, a solo exhibition and two Winnipeg Theatre Awards.
