Risa Horowitz
Artist Talk - May 28, 2014
Risa Horowitz spent the month of May 2014 as an Artist in Residence at Video Pool. While here, she developed ideas and prototypes for her work in progress āImaging Saturnā. āImaging Saturnā visualizes the planetās motion during the course of its 29 year-long orbit around the sun. In this talk Horowitz shares her processes and experiences in developing a series of micro-controlled kinetic sculptures of the planet that, with image recording devices, will depict its appearance throughout its orbit.
Through āImaging Saturnā Horowitz explores the sublime and incomprehensible scale of the universe, and our ability to make sense of that scale both logically and intuitively. While working across visual and media arts and science, Horowitz discusses the ways that the project aggravates boundaries between the expert and amateur.
