Please Welcome Mario Desbiens to VP's Scott Leroux Residency Program!
It is our pleasure to announce Mario Desbiens as the 2025 recipient of the Scott Leroux Fund for Media Arts Exploration (SLFMAE). In memory of Scott Leroux and supported by the Leroux family, the SLFMAE is an annual, month-long residency focused on the research and exploration of a specific technology and related aesthetic approaches.
This year's edition focuses on the creative manipulation of analog A/V signals through feedback, signal modification, and hybrid digital-analog processes to transform old videotapes and investigate the materiality of electronic images.
About the Artist
Mario Desbiens (Orima Bendisse)
After a hiatus as a philosophy teacher, Mario Desbiens, alias Orima Bendisse, is back since the last three years, to his first love, the moving images. His Sequenzas No. 1 and No. 2 have been presented in a few festivals in Canada and internationally, in the video art and in the experimental film sections. He is working presently on the Sequenza No.3, as well as a multi-screen project about the fall period in the Gatineau Park. His Sequenza series use the feedback process and are animated by keyframes. Each one is for a solo instrument, the first one was for English horn, the second for Transverse flute and the third will be for electric bass.
