Cheap Thrills

Explore the creative potential of undesired, obsolete and affordable video electronics. Learn how to create Video Synthesis on a budget, and embrace the limitations and artifacts of the growing piles of video technology shoved aside by the digital age. Colby Richardson leads this project based workshop on how to make the most with the technology that costs the least.

Unity – Virtual Space

Learn the building blocks to prototyping a simple art installation in virtual reality. The course will include an introduction to the Unity 3D user interface, 3D primitives for prototyping, and basic virtual object interactions like grabbing and throwing. By learning these building blocks, learners can start exploring virtual reality in their art practice.

Concept to Screen

This workshop will be about independent video creation with hands on instruction including camera and editing setups. We will look at how to use DIY, low budget tools and adaptation to bring a project to life.

Camera Aesthetics

Do you want to learn how to make your moving images pop? This Camera workshop will not only go give a technical overview of the equipment but will break down aesthetically how to get visually stunning video. We will work on camera basics including settings, colour balance, correct exposure, and audio basics including microphones.

Scott Leroux Fund 2019 recipient Colby Richardson

It is our pleasure to announce Colby Richardson as the 2019 recipient of the Scott Leroux Fund for Media Arts Exploration. Colby will inhabit Poolside Gallery for the month of March and has some ambitious plans for our legacy video equipment that has been faithfully stored and maintained over the years. In addition to employing use of this equipment to develop new work, Colby will host a number of open-studio days and a presentation on the First Friday of April.

Applying for an Exhibition with Jennifer Smith

Do you want to exhibit your work in artist-run -Centres across Canada? Jennifer Smith will be offering a 1.5 hour workshop on the process of applying for exhibition in galleries. The workshop will include a list of galleries that are friendly to exhibiting Media Arts, how to get your application together and insights on what juries are looking for.
